Saturday July 9th 10am (limited) & Saturday July 10th 10am (constructed)

The road to Epic Worlds makes its only Connecticut stop this year at ConnectiCon. New England gamers — this is another chance to win your way to Worlds, taking place right in your backyard this November!

IMPORTANT NOTE: A convention membership to ConnectiCon is required to enter the Convention Center. Because of this, we have lowered the cost for these tournaments to just $5. ConnectiCon has a weekend-long schedule of events — fun for the whole family across the gaming and pop culture spectrum. Find out more on their website.

Format and Rules for Limited

Preliminary Rounds – “Random 60”

Players are required to bring (or purchase) a set of Epic Card Game and one of each Tyrants expansion pack. Players will get to use 60 of those cards, randomly selected from the set of 168 cards in the two sets. Of those cards, players will build a 30 card deck, which they use for the preliminary rounds.

Each round, players will be paired with an opponent with the same number of wins. Matches will be two-out-of-three.

After several rounds of play, the eight players with the best record advance to the playoffs. (The number of preliminary rounds will be based on attendance.)

Playoff Rounds – “Dark Draft”

The playoff rounds are single elimination, played best two-out-of-three games, using our Dark Draft format. The playoff rounds are played best two-out-of-three with the higher-seeded player choosing to go first or second in a game three (if necessary).

Dark Draft begins with a shuffled collection of Epic cards from both the base game and Tyrants. Each player is dealt five cards from the draft stack, and they choose one of those cards to go into their decks, and pass the remaining four to their opponent. Then, each player chooses two other cards to go into their decks, and pass the final two cards to a discard pile of cards no one uses. Now each player has three cards in this deck. Repeat this process again and again until players have thirty cards in their deck. Put the leftover cards away, shuffle these decks, and play!

Format and Rules for Constructed

Preliminary Rounds – “Full Constructed”

  • Each player builds a deck from their own Epic card collection.
  • Decks must contain at least 60 cards, with no more than three copies of each card.
  • For each 0-cost card of an alignment, the deck must contain at least two 1-cost cards of the same alignment. (For example, a deck with seven 0-cost sage cards must have at least fourteen 1-cost sage cards.)

For sanctioned tournaments, promotional cards are not allowed until they have been released in a product for sale at retail. As of now, only the cards released in the Epic set one and Epic Tyrants are allowed; the organized play cards and the Kickstarter promo cards are not allowed.

Each round, players will be paired with an opponent with the same number of wins. Matches will be two-out-of-three.

After several rounds of play, the eight players with the best record advance to the playoffs. (The number of preliminary rounds will be based on attendance.)

Playoff Rounds

The playoff rounds are played best two-out-of-three with the higher-seeded player choosing to go first or second in a game three (if necessary).

Frequently Asked Questions

If I win the tournament, do I get cash at the event?

No – money prizes are awarded after the World Championships this fall. (This means that getting to the event will be your responsibility.)

Does the $5 entry fee cover the cost of getting the game?

No – you must either bring your own copy of the game and Tyrants expansion or purchase it from the store the day of the tournament (while supplies last).

Do I need to purchase a ConnectiCon membership to enter the tournament?

Yes – A convention membership is required. These cost between $30 for Sunday and $75 for the three day pass. There are plenty of nifty things to do other than playing Epic — we will have Star Realms and Hero Realms there, and they have an amazing “popup arcade” with games from around the world. There will be thousands of people there cosplaying as well. (Anyone up for Epic cosplay? We will very likely give promos for that…)

Are Tyrants required for the limited event?

Yes.
